The Local – Beta, Plans, Partners & Trip Reports:: Local Climbing Gyms
kind of late in the week, but there are a few options:

1. University of TN Health Science Center has a bouldering gym downtown (their website has the activity center address and phone number and all of that) and costs $10 for a one-stop visit, or

2. lifetime fitness in collierville has a climbing wall, they have everything except slab climbing (it's at poplar and houston levee in collierville, not sure of the actual address but if you go to poplar and houston levee, as soon as you turn north on houston levee you can't miss it on your right- think globogym from the movie dodgeball)

Help Secure Southeast Climbing [by sshankle]

General:: Help Secure Southeast Climbing
From Will at the SEC:

The Southeastern Climbers Coalition asks for YOUR help to secure access to 2 excellent crags currently closed to climbing. We have entered the Pepsi Refresh Project grant competition at the $250,000 level. The winners are determined by public e-voting. If we win, and that is entirely up to your diligence in voting and helping spread the word, the SCC will use the money to secure access to climbing areas in Alabama and Tennessee. The specific locations cannot be disclosed at this time because access hasn't yet been secured, but trust us, they're amazing properties to preserve and enjoy forevermore!

You may vote for the SCC's Land Acquisition Proposal twice per day (once via text and once via web), every single day, from November 1 to midnight November 30, 2010. Every vote is valuable and counts towards the cause! The proposal with the most votes WINS!

Please sign up for our daily voting reminder for the month of November by clicking here:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGYybVJxZklfWHZSTmFEM1N4SW9uRlE6MQ&ifq

To vote twice right now, click here: http://www.refresheverything.com/seclimbers (Vote #1)

and text "104071" to the number 73774 (Vote #2)

and THANK YOU!

Access Fund and Southeast Climber's Coalition [by mmij]

General:: Access Fund and Southeast Climber's Coalition
I have posted on the web site about both the Access Fund and the Southeast Climber's Coalition in the past. I make small automatic monthly donations to both. It is easy. You will never miss the minimum ($7). Some of you may or may not know that we have access to King's Bluff because the SEC purchased it and manages it.... It isn't free. Someone is paying for it. Here is another good example. SEC has closed on 25 acres at Steele, AL, but it required a bridge loan from the Access Fund to close on time. SEC just needs a bit more money to satisfy that debt. Every $10 helps.

http://www.seclimbers.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=86

Here is a timely article as a follow up to my post about the Southeast Climbers Coalition and the Access Fund...

http://rockandice.com/news/1207-climbing-ban-lifted

Support them. It is cheap insurance!
