The Memphis Mountaineers is the oldest climbing club in the south (since 1979). We are a
non-profit organization whose goal is to promote and teach the climbing sports, and to protect
the resources of the climbing community in the Mid-South. Club membership dues are $20
per year for individuals and $30 for a family membership. This money goes to support the
organizations and people that maintain the regional climbing areas, to maintain our website
and to stock the club’s climbing equipment for club trips and rentals.
We regularly rock climb at:
- Jamestown Mtn - Arkansas
- Kings Bluff - Clarksville, Tennessee
- Sams Throne - Arkansas
- Several sites in Southern Illinois (Drapers Bluff, Cedar Bluff, Ferne Clyffe State Park, Jackson Falls)
And we occasionally go rock climbing at several other places in Arkansas, Mississippi (yes, there is rock climbing in Mississippi), Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and North Carolina.
Within the last few years, members interested in road tripping for rock, ice and alpine climbing in grand settings have made it to:
- Colorado (Rockies)
- California (Sierra)
- Washington (Cascades and Olympics)
- Oregon (Cascade volcanoes)
- New Hampshire (Mount Washington area)
- Utah
- Nevada (Red Rocks)
Our local club trips are planned weekly by the MMI members. Beginners are always welcome,
and club trips are a great environment to learn the craft. We also rent some climbing gear for a
small fee.
This website has pictures from some of our club trips, club information, newsletters, a message
board and a calendar where trips and events are planned. We also have quarterly meetings where
club issues are discussed, trips are planned and occasionally skills are learned in brief skill clinics.
Give us a shout and lets go climbing!
